CIMA On Weatherization At The White House

Weatherization Assistance Program Summit at White House

CIMA’s Chris Hoch (L) at White House

Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association President Chris Hoch was a featured speaker at the White House this month. The first-ever Weatherization Supply Chain event was held June 15 as a forum to discuss the Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP.)

The WAP is an important governmental program that creates jobs, save energy, reduces energy costs for low-income families and stimulates advancements in energy technology.

Click here to see a video clip of the forum. Mr. Hoch’s remarks begin at 22:53. Visit the WAP website to learn more about this program and see this excellent recap of facts and benefits of WAP to date.

It is important to keep the Weatherization Assistance Program funded. CIMA encourages everyone interested in creating jobs and saving energy to support the renewal of the WAP.

Curt Dawkins says:

The Weatherization Assistance Program has an excellent track record and is a great example of how public-private partnerships can work in our country. I am glad to see that cellulose insulation was prominently featured on the panel- DOE and the weatherization community "get it" that cellulose delivers the best bang for the buck. And the fact that it is such a green and sustainable building product is starting to really resonate beyond the weatherization crowd. Cellulose Insulation is headed to mainstream America and infrared scanners can be purchased for as little as $2K- thanks WAP!

NASCSP would like to thank Mr. Hoch again for his invaluable contribution to the panel at the White House's Weatherization Supply Chain Event. His comments about the economic impact that WAP has on local communities and job growth brought to light a very important point that many miss when discussing the success of Weatherization. We were very fortunate and proud to have him as a panelist!

Anne says:

It's really flabbergasting that a program like WAP, which is basically preventative medicine for some of our energy problems, is at risk of being cut. WAP is practical, useful and forward-looking on several fronts, so of course it becomes a prime target for budget reduction.

On top of that, I've come across complaints on the web that some states don't do much to make the public aware of the availability of WAP. If homeowners don't know to go looking for it, it seems in some places no one is going out of their way to advertise it. So it's also a good program being systematically under-utilized.
